Important Information for Clubs

For clubs that are operating as an incorporated society, hopefully you are aware that the Incorporated Societies Act 1908 has been replaced with the Incorporated Societies Act 2022. All societies need to re-register under the 2022 Act before 5 April 2026 to remain an incorporated society, and it’s important that your club constitution is compliant with the new Act.

To support you with this, Netball New Zealand (NNZ) has had their lawyers (Simpson Grierson) draft a constitution template for Netball Clubs. NNZ has added extra notes to the template, and created FAQs and additional information to support clubs through the process.

We realise that the template constitution might not meet the needs of all clubs perfectly because there are various ways in which Clubs operate, therefore the template will need tailoring for your club’s specific circumstances.  There are comments and notes which suggest alternatives in some places. We encourage you to check the notes from Simpson Grierson, which point out where there are requirements under the Act, before making adjustments to the template.

You do not have to use this template. There are other templates available for you to use which will meet the requirements under ISA (e.g. Sport NZ templates or the constitution builder on the Incorporated Societies Website). The benefit of the NNZ template is that it considers the place of clubs in the wider netball system.

If you need support with the template or have questions regarding it, please contact us in the first instance.
