HPNC follows the Woolworths futureFERNS Philosophy where it progresses players through modified formats of Netball that recognises their stage of physical and mental development. The aim is not only to grow their Netball abilities but also to help with their overall physical literacy which includes confidence, motivation, knowledge and understanding and physical competence.

Year 1 - 2:

Year 1 & 2 players are introduced to Netball in a fun and safe environment. Since fundamental movement skill development at this stage is still seen as paramount, each Game Day will commence with a skill session followed by a modified game of Netball — 4 v 4 across one third of the Netball court.

Year 3 - 4 

Year 3 & 4 is designed to be fast and fun, maximising participation, and touches of the ball. With modified equipment and less players on the court, in 5 v 5 the game is less complicated.

Year 3 & 4 players also have the oppurtunity to join our Saturday Club Winter Netball from the 2026 season! These Saturday games will follow the FutureFERNS philosophy and modified games but run with central timing. This means that this age group will have a 10-minute skill development session during quarter one then a 4 v 4 game for the following three quarters.

Year 5 - 6

The 6 v 6 game is fast and provides players with lots of touches on the ball to enhance skill development and enjoyment. With only three positions on court it means the game is less complicated for children and easier for coaches to ensure the players learn the skills relevant to all and to provide them with equal opportunities.
