LAKES FC FUTSAL TOURNAMENTS

Boys’ and girls’ primary school futsal tournaments are being held in Rotorua in April

  • Girls’ tournament on Sunday 6 April
  • Boys’ tournament on Sunday 13 April

Both will be at the Rotorua Girls’ High School Arena from 9:30AM to 4:30PM.

In these tournaments, each team will play five 17-minute games; three pool games, a “semi-final” and a “final”. There will be no tournament winner. We would like for primary school teams to have a tournament experience in a fun and safe environment with no pressure to do well like there can be at Intermediate and Secondary school tournaments. However, there will be Fair Play Award which will be voted on by the referees.

The tournaments are for teams made up of Year 3 to 6 students. Recommended squad size is 7-8 players, with a maximum of 10. Game time should be shared fairly between all players.

There will be a sausage sizzle and cake stall run for the duration of the tournaments.

Each tournament is limited to a maximum of 16 teams so don’t delay. Entries close Tuesday 1 April. Entry fee is $150 per team. Referees are provided. Any funds raised will go towards the Rotorua Girls’ High School 2025 futsal trip to the Philippines.

SPORTY PARENTS with Wayne Goldsmith

Sporting Parent? Chances are at some time in your life, you’ll be one.

Learn how to be the best sporting parent you can with professional leadership, coach, mentor and sports commentator Wayne Goldsmith at Sporty Parents evening on Wednesday, March 12th, from 6.30 p.m  - 8.00 p.m . at Ōtūmoetai College, Tauranga.

Most sporty parents think that doing more things for their kids, e.g. packing their bags, making their lunches, setting their alarms, cleaning their sports gear, is great parenting.

In fact, it’s the exact opposite of what we would like you to do as a sporting parent.

Some of the things that you really need to develop in your children are things like :
the independence for them to choose to do things for themselves;
the importance of accepting responsibility for the things that they do and don’t do;
the ability to accept accountability for those decisions they make and don’t make.
By doing more for them, you’re impacting on their confidence. Because – Confidence comes from knowing, and knowing comes from doing.

The more your child can do, the more they know and the more confident they become. Let them do more. Let them do all the little things, stop doing it for them so that they can do more, they learn more, they grow and they develop their confidence.

During the workshop, some of the things we'll discuss are Waves and Rocks, Identity and Sport and ...

  • How can you help your child to learn to love sport?
  • How can you encourage them to enjoy the experience of sport?
  • How do you help them realise their complete sporting potential?

And walk away with tips and tools you can implement.
