Business Manager Vacancy

Paraparaumu College is a proudly co-educational school of approximately 1,500 students situated on the beautiful Kāpiti Coast on a spacious and attractive campus.

We are seeking an experienced, strategic Business Manager to join our Senior Leadership Team. In this pivotal role, you will lead the full range of operational, HR, administrative, trading and business improvement functions of our school, ensuring our staff and environment are fully supported to deliver educational excellence.

As a core member of the SLT reporting directly to the Principal, you will provide strategic operational leadership, drive human resources and performance management, and serve as the principal advisor on HR, compliance and governance matters to both the Principal and the Board.

Key Responsibilities

• Strategic HR, Recruitment & Performance: Drive school-wide recruitment and performance management frameworks. Provide expert advice to the Principal and Board on employment legislation, HR policy and strategic HR
• Support Staff Leadership: Hold overall leadership of all school support staff, directly managing a team of support staff line managers to foster a high-performing and collaborative working culture.
• Payroll & Financial Oversight: Retain responsibility for the accuracy and approval of the fortnightly payroll, alongside budget oversight for the support staff function.
• Governance & Board Support: Act as Secretary to the Board, ensuring smooth governance operations, accurate record-keeping, and regulatory compliance.
• Health, Safety & Compliance: Maintain overall responsibility for school-wide health and safety policies, processes, compliance, and risk management, including emergency management.
• Information Governance: Oversee records management processes to ensure secure, compliant, and efficient handling of school records and information.

Key Qualifications & Experience

• Senior Operational Leadership: Proven experience in a senior business management or HR leadership role, ideally within an educational or public sector environment.
• HR Expertise: Sound knowledge of employment legislation, modern recruitment practices, performance management frameworks, and employee relations.
• People Management: Strong people leadership capability, with a proven track record of developing senior and intermediate managers and building high-performing teams.
• Governance & Communication: Experience supporting executive boards, paired with exceptional communication and advisory skills.
• Compliance & Operational Precision: High level of detail in managing payroll approvals, H&S statutory duties, and records compliance.
