RecycliNg AND SustaINability AT thE Zespri AIMS Games
At the Zespri AIMS Games, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact and promoting sustainable practices. With the support of our partners and community, we aim to minimise waste and maximise recycling throughout the tournament.
During Games Week, our dedicated Green Team - a group of 50 student volunteers - will work alongside Tauranga-based Waste Watchers to manage compost, recycling, and waste stations across all venues. Their efforts are a vital part of our mission to divert as much waste from landfill as possible.
By participating in the 2026 Zespri AIMS Games, your school is joining us in this important kaupapa. Together, we can make a meaningful difference by:
- Avoiding waste wherever possible
- Reusing materials
- Recycling and composting appropriately
- Sending waste to landfill only as a last resort
How You Can Help
- Avoid bringing large rubbish bags to the Games
- Use reusable food and drink containers whenever possible
- If disposable packaging is necessary, choose items made from recyclable (#1 and #2 plastics, paper, card, or aluminium) or compostable materials
- Minimise the use of single-use plastic bags, which pose a significant environmental risk
- Educate your students, staff, and supporters about our waste diversion goals
- Support our Green Team volunteers, who are generously giving their time to help keep the Games clean and green
- Sort waste correctly using the colour-coded bins provided:
- Red for general rubbish
- Yellow for recycling
- Green for food scraps
Every small action contributes to our shared goal of making the Zespri AIMS Games a leading example of environmental responsibility. Thank you for your support in helping us protect our environment and inspire the next generation of kaitiaki (guardians).
