Like a patchwork quilt, Glen Eden Intermediate’s hockey team is made up of all different pieces. But when stitched together, everything seems to work together seamlessly.

It’s been three years since the green, white and black Glen Eden colours have appeared on the AIMS Games hockey field – so the school from West Auckland pieced together a team.

Manager Aden Cartwright and coach Tim Clulow decided this year it was a good idea to enter the school back in the mix.

“We knew of players in the school playing for different clubs, so we put the word out to the school and from there found out we had enough players, so decided to piece together a team,” Cartwright said.

The Glen Eden Gladiators, made up of five boys and five girls, won six of their nine games this week.

The team members said they have a “sense of pride and passion” wearing their school colours and hoped to enter their AIMS Games team in future regional competitions.

“Its good to go up against other schools and compare skills with each other to see how we are progressing,” 12-year-old goalkeeper William Lewis said.
