Grow your skills & knowledge

Support for Coaches of Year 1-8 players

If coaching Year 1-8, futureFERNS offers FREE resources & workshops for all.
Perfect for parents plucked from the sideline to coach for the first time or those who may have been out of the game for a wee while seeking a refresher. 

Workshops cover modified game variations and target how to coach essential basic netball skills.
Age groups:
Year 1&2
Year 3&4
Year 5&6 (7v7 introduced 2026) or Year 5&6 (6v6)
Year 7&8

Wellington Junior Netball Satellites - Motu Kairangi Netball, Northern Suburbs Netball, and Wellington West Netball - schedule workshops annually at a time & venue convenient for their members.  Workshops run prior to season start. Dates vary per age group per satellite. Workshops provide a great practical opportunity to walk & talk through resource activities for greater understanding.

Netball New Zealand Coach Pathway & Accreditation

Netball New Zealand off a wide range of quality coach workshops to attend based on must-know topics.
Netball New Zealand also offer a pathway to complete nationally recognised coach accreditation - the image below illustrates 3 award levels.
​​​​​​​Coaches are welcome to start, stop & pick back up with their learning at any point or simply choose topics of interest as suits their needs.

Workshops are hosted around our five Wellington Regional Centres -

Netball Hutt Valley Centre
Kapi Mana Netball Centre
Netball Kapiti
Netball Wairarapa  

  • Scheduled: pre-season (Feb to May) & off-season (Sep to Dec)
  • Duration: 2 hours max
  • Cost: online FREE. In person TBC per event

Community Coach Award (CCA) develops coaches working with athletes from Year 7 to adult.
Themes also benefit managers & umpires as well as sports beyond netball, therefore cross-code learning is welcome.

Level 1 consists of 9 modules focused on technical learning and understanding the importance of embracing a player-centred approach.
Level 2 consists of 7 additional modules plus 1 coach observation with a tactical learning focus.

Modules may be attended in any order.
​​​​​​​Level 1 & Level 2 modules may be completed simultaneously however Level 1 must first be awarded before Level 2 can be achieved.

Composite Coaching Qualification (CCQ) is a fast-track qualification tailored to former elite level players with prior practical netball experience.

​​​​​​​Performance Coach Qualification (PCQ) is for coaches who have attained their CCA and are working with representative athletes within the development and performance levels. The formal qualification consists of five advanced modules facilitated via an E-Learning portal, in-workshop course tasks, an evidence-based portfolio and observations over a three-year period.

High Performance Coach Development is a facilitated formal and informal programme designed to challenge and support the individual development of elite coaches. Coaches must be engaged with the development of identified elite athletes within the High Performance Pathway.

​​​​​​​Informal Learning

In addition to accredited workshops listed above, there are adhoc learning opportunities offered from time to time. These may include guest presenters sharing their knowledge, practical workshops, training observations, hands-on learning by shadowing others... the list goes on! Informal workshops are open to all and are considered a highly valuable informal way to expand knowledge, meet & learn from like-minded individuals and bolster your personal coaching toolkit. 

Free online learning

​​​​​​​Netball New Zealand introduced their learning & development portal Sport Tutor in 2021. It is designed to benefit all coaches, umpires, managers, administrators, volunteers, and players and provides an exciting upskill experience.
