Planning for a Stronger, More Accessible Equestrian Future
The National Equestrian Facilities Strategy was developed to address growing challenges faced by the equestrian community—such as access to suitable land, urban expansion, volunteer capacity, and ageing infrastructure. In partnership with Equestrian Sports New Zealand (ESNZ), NZPCA is working to ensure equestrian activities remain accessible, inclusive, and sustainable.
The strategy focuses on identifying the right facilities in the right locations, ensuring participants and their horses have access to safe, high-quality experiences. It includes a full inventory of equestrian sites across New Zealand, considers environmental and demographic shifts, and outlines a prioritised plan for facility development.
The strategy covers:
Core equestrian sites such as pony club grounds, A&P showgrounds, racecourses, and private equestrian parks.
Public spaces like trails, beaches, forests, and parks used for recreational riding.
This nationwide plan provides a foundation for collaboration, investment, and smart planning to meet the evolving needs of our equestrian community.
