​​​​​​Hockey Teams

Our teams compete in a weekly competition administered by the Tauranga Hockey Association (THA).

Games are predominantly played at the Tauranga Hockey Centre (THC). Where required, matches may also be scheduled at Tauranga Boys’ College (TBC).

Secondary School (Years 9–13)

1st XI Girls:

Coach:  Abby Furmage (Also Head of Code)

• Training:  
  • Monday at Tauranga Boys College 6:15-8:00pm
    (6:15-6:45pm in the Gym and 7:00-8:00pm on the turf) and
  • Thursday at Tauranga Hockey Association One hour between 4:00-6:00pm  (to be confirmed by THA once turf submissions close on 22 March)

In 2025, the 1st XI Girls claimed the Championship 1 title. Following this success, we have the option and would like to enter the Secondary Premier League (SPL) for the upcoming season.  Please note the change in game day. 

SPL Tauranga Weekly competition and season dates: (Part 1 of Season)

• Games:  Wednesday's.
• Season dates: 29 April (week 2) to 24 June (9 weeks).

SPL Midlands competition and season dates: (Part 2 of Season)

• Games:  Wednesday's.
• Season dates: 1 July to 26 August (7 weeks) - 16 weeks total.
• Location:  THC, TBC, and Hamilton

Championship 1 competition and season dates:

• Games:  Monday's
• Season dates: 4 May (week 3) to 24 August (15 weeks).

1st XI Boys:

• Season dates: 5 May (week 3) to 25 August (15 weeks)
• Training:  Wednesday 5-6:30pm at Boys College

Super 6s (Girls/Boys/Mixed):

Coach:  TBC 

• Games:  Tuesday's
• Season dates: 5 May (week 3) to 25 August (15 weeks)
• Training: TBC

Intermediate (Years 7–8)

Kwik Sticks (Girls/Boys/Mixed): 

Coach:  Gene Coates-Reid, A team and support to B team.  We still require a B team Coach.

• Games:  Friday's
• Season dates: 1 May (Week 2) to Friday 28 August (15 weeks).
• Training: Sunday's | 1:30–2:30pm | Tauranga Boys’ College. 

Primary School

Kiwi Sticks (Year 05-06 Girls/Boys/Mixed):

Coaches: Ian Ashworth and TBC

• Games:  Saturday mornings
• Season dates: 2 May (Week 2) to Saturday 29 August (15 weeks)
  No games 30 May and 4 July.
• Training: Lunchtime at school, day TBC

Mini Sticks (Year 03-04 Girls/Boys/Mixed):

Coaches: Carl Huppman and TBC

• Games:  Saturday mornings
• Season dates: 2 May (Week 2) to Saturday 29 August (15 weeks)
  No games 30 May and 4 July.
• Training: Lunchtime at school, day TBC

Funsticks (Year 01-02 Mixed):

Please note that games are played on the following dates:

• King's Birthday Weekend - (Year 7-8 and Secondary) 
• Term 2 holidays Week 1 w/c 29 June (All Years)

  ACG Tauranga has a unique three-week term break between Terms 2 and 3. Most external competitions continue during one week of this break, and students must be available to play or arrange a substitute if the competition allows.

If you are planning a holiday, please inform the team manager/coach as early as possible. ​​​​​​​

New Zealand Secondary Schools Tournament Week takes place annually and in 2026 will be from ​​​Monday 31 August (departing Sunday 30 August) to Friday 4 September.

If a student intends to trial or play for a 1st XI team, or is involved in multiple 1st XI sports (e.g., Football and Hockey), they must indicate on the registration form which tournament they intend to attend. This ensures placement and selections can be managed appropriately for both teams.

2025 Team Fees:

• Secondary 1st XI Girls: $610**
• Secondary 1st XI Boys: $540**
• Secondary Super 6s: No team in 2025
• Intermediate Year 07/08: $495**
• Primary Year 05/06:  $210
• Primary Year 03/04: $195

​​​​​​​*Fees include team entry fees, game and training turf hire costs, coaching costs, umpire costs (secondary only), first aid, uniform, and equipment maintenance.

**NZ Secondary School Tournament Week and AIMS Games Week is an additional fee.  Sponsorship and/or parent-led fundraising opportunities may be available.

Team Uniforms:

• Y 03-13: Sports uniform and socks provided.
• Y 01-02: PE uniform to be worn. Navy socks must be purchased/worn.
• Students must supply their own hockey stick, shin guards, mouth guard, and sports shoes.​​​​​​​

Available to / Day and Location:

Term 1 (8-week programme - Week 3 to Week 10)

• Year 3-6:  Tuesday Lunchtime on the turf. Starting Week 3, 10 February.
  • NB: Dependent on numbers, may need to split into Y3-4 and Y5-6 on separate days
• Year 7-8:  Thursday Lunchtime on the turf. Starting Week 3, 12 February.

What to wear:

• Students must change into their PE gear (promptly) and wear appropriate sports shoes and socks. 
• Students will also need a mouthguard and shin guards.
• Hockey sticks and balls can be provided.

Fees:​​​​​​​ $80 per student

This fee will be charged to your school account.
